Wildlife Management is an important practice for landowners, hunters,
and managers. Today, hunting and fishing properties are in demand
because recreational users from urban areas are paying good money to lease
or buy these properties. By implementing a wildlife management program,
the quality of your game and the value of your land will improve for years
to come.
Wildlife Management Goal is to provide the highest quality game management
for a select few ranches. The ranches that are currently managed
are located in Shackelford and Stephens Counties near Albany and Breckenridge.
Both properties have been under management for 5-6 years, and have seen
substantial improvements. Hunters and landowners wanting the best
a property can produce are most likely to participate in our wildlife management
program.
Whitetail Deer, Bobwhite Quail, Rio Grande Turkey, and Mourning Dove
are the game that we manage for. Songbirds and other wildlife species
also benefit from the feeding programs and management techniques used.
Natural conditions such as rain can also have a dramatic affect on the
quality of wildlife. All we can do is what is in our control, and
hope mother nature provides beneficial conditions.
Whitetail Deer Management is the most common and easily affected
by game management. The population can be accurately determined and
monitored. Hunters can help determine what age structure, buck to
doe ratio, and density by harvesting the appropriate deer. Supplemental
feeding, foodplots, and habitat improvement also impact deer herds in a
positive manner. A realistic goal in the Shackelford and Stephens
County area is to produce a stable population of 140-150 B&C class
deer.
Our intensive Wildlife Management Program may include the following:
· Aerial or spotlight deer census with written evaluation
· Infrared camera quality buck census
· Preseason harvest recommendations
· Record keeping system for all wildlife harvested
· Feeding Programs (Milo, corn, wheat, and protein pellets)
· Supplemental protein feeding for trophy whitetails
· Feeder maintenance and placement
· Foodplot planning & development
· Fall and spring wildlife foodplots
· TPWD Managed Lands Program and other program involvement
· Trap and transport deer
· Post season harvest report & analysis
My goal is to provide the highest quality service possible for a
few ranches. Fees for these services may vary dependent upon the
size, location, and the intensity of the wildlife program desired.
Every ranch is different, and I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss
potential wildlife programs that may increase the value of your ranch.
Wildlife Consultation is also available to ranch properties needing direction in their wildlife management programs.
